Happy Mike Gundy Day!

There are 7 Games remaining and 5 Sabowlers still in contention.  Four of those games will be played today and a champion could be determined before the day is over, but before we talk about today lets recap the action of yesterday.

We entered the day with 12 Sabowlers that still had a glimmer of hope of winning the SABOWL.  Those dreams were dashed for many during the course of the 5 games played.  Here is my favorite play of the day.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WIDekoBZz0

I thought that this guy put the nails in the coffin then sat on top of it but that was not enough to hold back Michigan State.  Two of the biggest games included the first ever College Football Playoff.  The first was a blowout victory for Oregon over Florida State.  It was later admitted in the locker room that half of the Florida State Criminals left at halftime to save a seat at the Crab Shak for the rest of the team.  Or is that just their Alibi?  Florida State Quarterback Jameis Winston did stick around for the entire game to speak the profound statement in a post game news conference “We just got beat.”  He also slipped this smug statement “lose is not in my vocabulary to be honest witch ya.”  Well let me be honest witch ya Jameis, if you faced the fierce competition of the SABOWL lose would be firmly planted in your vocabulary.  Later on in the other playoff Alabama was defeated in a great game by Ohio State.  A full recap of this game can be found in yesterdays Locker Room.   Which brings me to the real highlights of the day.  The Locker room reached 205 comments and counting.  That is a record day for the Sabowl Locker Room.  The discussion included comments from current SABWOL participants, The Sabowl Standings, The Sabowl Spreadsheet, The Sabowl Locker Room itself, Several I Team Investigations, Mike Gundy, The Florida State.  For all who interested here is a picture of Rudy with the SABOWL.

Todays Action

Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl 12:00 PM

afb

Pittsburgh Favored by 3.5 over Houston

Sabowl Ramifications:   Jimmy and Jonathan could both be eliminated with a Houston win.  A Pittsburgh win will not eliminate anyone.

Interesting side note:  Lieutenant Dan will be doing a free post game concert if you are anywhere near Fort Worth, might be worth checking out.  ltdan

Taxslayer Bowl 3:30 PM

Tennessee Favord by 3.5 over Iowa

tsbSabowl Ramifications:  Jonathan is the only person who picked Iowa so a Tennessee win will eliminate him if he is not already gone.

Bowl Fact:  This will be the 69th edition of this bowl game.  all 68 of the previous games have been called the Gator Bowl.  For some season Taxslayer sees themselves as important enough to drop the gator.  lets see how that works out for them.

Valero Alamo Bowl 6:45 PM

Kansas State by 1.5 over UCLA

vabSabowl Ramifications:  Jonathan, Jim and Jimmy all have UCLA.  Josh and Christina have Kansas State

Ticketcity Cactus Bowl 10:15 PM  AKA Gundy Bowl

Washington favored by 5.5 over Oklahoma State

tcbtcb2Sabowl Ramifications:  Jonathan, Jim, and Josh all have Oklahoma State.  Jimmy and Christina have Oklahoma State.  Christina could possibly clinch the Sabowl with  a win here.  depending on what happened earlier in the day.

You all know we cannot let a Mike Gundy Coached team participate in Sabowl Competition and not play this video.

Since its Gundy Day I will share some interesting Gundy Facts:

Mike Gundy is still a man and is now 47.  He is an Alumna of Oklahoma State where he played Quarterback for 4 years.  He has been a coach for 25 years, 20 of those years at Oklahoma State, where he has been the head coach for the past 10 years.  Gundy currently holds a 5-3 record in Sabowl Competition.

Good luck to everyone, see you in the locker room.  be sure to check out the Sabowl Standings and Sabowl Spreadsheet.

Great post Muffin, glad you are up and among the living after what sounded like a nasty bout of something really gross.

Michael and Izabella are on their way to the MOVE conference in Athens for the next two days so his comments may be limited. I however have the boys to myself. Currently they are arguing about who is smarter. I’ll keep you posted about how that plays out. We are headed to brunch, which I think the boys feel like they were hosed in this situation since they only get one meal instead of two.

Muffin, what did you and Mimi call it when you had one meal together a day? it was a mix of breakfast, lunch and dinner.

okay well the boys just said “are we going to do any fun today?” So I went all ” so you think football is fun” Herman Boone style from Remember the Titans on them. let me go have some fun with these cute little men. Be back later 🙂

Fun Fact… the real Herman Boone is a man he is 79! I imagine he had some Gundy moments before they were known as Gundy moments.

It does sound like they are getting hosed. Did they use the word hosed to describe their feelings. I would have to give the crown for whoever is smarter the one that used that word.

Caleb said “when we get home I want to watch Jonah and the lions den” later said, “Then we will watch Daniel and Goliath” #noiteamnecessary pretty sure we know which is smarter after that.

Also, I’d screen there viewing of SABOWL for kids to see if they bounce back before you show it to them…They are on the edge of an 0-5 start

I think its very circumstantial. You need a day with a lot of games, people in contention enough to care, and also preferably a day where most people are off work.

        You’ll get the next one.

Maybe next year. But for this year I will continue to grasp to my glimmer of hope at winning the Sabowl. Could still be the comeback sabowler of the year.

haha… dont have a huge case of the smug right now. I have a stack of school work to grade a couple of cute little spider monkeys distracting me and it took nearly 10 minutes for me to figure out who won between Pitt and Houston.

    Are you kidding me Pitt?

How many 20+ leads have been blown this Sabowl? I feel like those games worked against me every time!

I finally finished grading the second of the three semester exams that I had to grade. Ive only had them since December 17… why rush. The locker room was my reward to getting that done!

Seriously there is a game at 10:15? Will Baby J be in the locker room for that one? I imagine he is pretty funny at that hour of the night 😉

There is not just a game at 10:15. It is THE MIKE GUNDY Game. This is where SABOWL locker room gold comes out.

Might I recommend multiple choice assignments. You can grade it before they leave the room and you don’t even have to think about it.

That would be great but the tests are mostly writing or translating words/sentences in Latin. I may be able to do some matching easily with vocabulary. Next year I will use my time more wisely and grade during my planning periods. #Latinprobs #procrastinatorprobs

Yeah multiple choice is not the best way to assess but it’s tough to grade free response for 150 kids

Just read that yesterday’s playoff games were top 2 most watch programs in TV history. I have to imagine Gundy Day will enter that mix as well.

At this point the scenario is that Christina will win outright over the course of the next three games or there will be a potential for a three way tie in the Championship game.

Great! Thanks. The link on the right hand side takes you to Sabowl VII. It was a great year, just not the one I was looking for.

    Have a great day.

Did you have a good year in the Sabowl competition?

Are you telling me the Mike Gundy that showed up earlier was an imposter.
