Champs and Alamo Bowls

The Sabowl is glad to be back from a short getaway to the city of Atlanta.  It has not been able to track everyone through www.sabowl.com but has been able to track games.  I have thoroughly missed all of the comments, banter, and encouragement that you will find in the Sabowl Locker Room (new name for the comment section to the game day posts).

Game 1: Florida State vs. Notre Dame (Champs Sports Bowl)
We are at another day of the Sabowl grind.  This game looks to be a good matchup of some former college football powerhouses who are trying to return to their glory days.  Hopefully it will be a good game to watch.  I expect it to be intense.  Notre Dame brings a lot of passion to the game.  They are led by head coach Brian Kelly.  Florida State is trying to bring class back to a struggling program.  They are led by head coach Jumbo Fisher.

Things to note:
-Both teams are 8-4, which means that one will be 9-4 and the other will be 8-5 following this game.  —–Brian Kelly is trying to be the first ND coach to win his first two bowl games.

FSU is favored by 3.5.

Game 2: Baylor vs. Washington  (Valero Alamo Bowl)

This game features Heisman trophy winner Robert Griffin III.  You will hear him as RG3 way too many times in this game.  Griffin is the quarterback for Baylor.  Washington will be led by Keith Price or who I like to refer as KP1.

Things to note:
-This is one of those big spread games.
-Baylor has the 2nd highest ranked offense in the nation or you could also say the world.
-On the same note, Baylor’s defense is the worst in the universe.
-Baylor is the favorite team the Christian group, David Crowder Band (or DCB) sort of like RG3.
-Watch Washington running back Chris Polk (if he has a big night, Baylor may be in trouble).
-When facing high profile quarterbacks this year, Washington has done well with containing the QBs but apparently forgot that they also have other people on the team and let the running backs have huge games.

Baylor is favored by 9.5.

Speaking of passion and intensity, the Sabowl competition is getting busy.  Rookie Joe so far as demonstrated that he may be in for the long haul.  In the previous two days, he has withstood some serious pushes from those behind, yet RJ1 (Rookie Joe I) does not give in.  Tonight is another opportunity for others to take the lead from RJ1.  Will it happen or will Rookie Joe hold on?  The next two days will tell us much about the future of the Sabowl.  It has been unprecedented that we have all 13 competitors grouped so close together.  As of right now, everyone is still in the hunt for the prestigious Sabowl.  Usually someone has really sucked by now and is totally out of the running.  We have only had some who have sort of sucked.  It is unbelievable.  Have fun tonight and get ready.  I also would like for everyone to comment in the post the following if you have read this entire post: “Brian Kelly is a chump.”

I have no idea what all that means due to the lack of glossary, but skimming to the last paragraph it says to say Brian Kelly is a chump. So there it is. R2D2…that’s my favorite letter/number combination since that seems to be a predominant theme in this post.

“Brian Kelly is a chump.” I don’t really know about this — just taking your word for it. Thank you for mentioning The David Crowder Band. Did I mention that I met David Crowder this year at The Dove Awards and had my picture taken with him!!! I hope he doesn’t find out that I didn’t go with Baylor.

Good points. However, all of that information is available throughout the Sabowl website. I am trying to encourage participants to utilize the well developed tools that can be found there. The information that can not be found can be provided by the knowledge and wisdom that comes from the Sabowl Locker Room (comment posting arena). Thanks for you input and for also for shutting your yapper.

Just saw that Florida State game head coach Jimbo Fisher a contract extension through 2016. They should have waited until after this game. Not good for FSU pickers. Contract extension=getting complacent and comfortable

    Glossary of Terms:
Sabowl Locker Room: you are in it now. The place where we can make the necessary comments to enhance the Sabowl experience.

Sabowl grind: the day to day work and physical, emotional, and mental toll that it takes on participants

former football powerhouses: a team that used to be very good in the 1990’s. This game was an incredible game back then. Watch for future football powerhouses to be in this category: Ohio State

Brian Kelly: the coach for Notre Dame that I cannot really get into discussing here due to my displeasure for him at the moment

Valero: I am sorry. I do not know what this is. Anyone?

RG3: nickname for Robert Griffin III. It is something that is totally overused and has actually caused some people to become nauseous. It is linked to what caused the bird to fly into the jet engine of the Southwestern plane this week. This is also what RJ1 (nickname for Rookie Joe) was developed from.

Nauseous: what Notre Dame fans should experience when they realize that Brian Kelly is their coach

long haul: a trip of some significant distance; also a term to describe the duration of the Sabowl season

sucked: term to describe the poor performance of many of the Sabowl participants in year past

chump: a very selfish, self-centered person who only cares about money or himself

I refuse to say that about Brian Kelly, I will however totally disagree with his crazy decision to add a shamrock to the beautiful, classic, golden dome helmets that Notre Dame is known for. Go Irish, and Im sure that Touchdown Jesus will be watching this game.

Great comment Christina. Thanks for dropping that knowledge on us.

I totally forgot about how “Chump” desecrated a sacred college uniform with the green shamrock. Has he not seen Rudy? You would think that would be a requirement to be a coach period…not only a coach at ND.

“Chick-a-yellem” (means “no problem” in Amharic, the language of Ethiopia that we are nearly fluent in)

I will continue to educate Sabowl participants on the wonder of Notre Dame.

More knowledge, ever wonder why they are called the “Fighting Irish”?

The press coined the nickname as a characterization of Notre Dame athletic teams, their never-say-die fighting spirit and the Irish qualities of grit, determination and tenacity.

Wow. I did not know that. However, now that I do know, I cannot help but wonder about the day that the Sabowl will become a university. What will the press name the athletic teams from the Sabowl University?

Lots of good stuff going on here, I’ll try to compile a list:

    – the modification of the nickname for Rookie Joe to RJ1, clever and leaves room for the emergence of RJ2
    – the continued conversation about how much of a chump Brian Kelley is for all kinds of reasons not the least of which is the shamrock on the helmets
    – the SABOWL locker room as the term for the comment section, wish I would’ve coined that
    – Christina’s ND knowledge, especially her knowledge of Brian Kelley being a chump
    – Michael pawning his laziness off as encouraging people to peruse the web site
    – Florida State coming back to cover this spread!

All I have to say is GO CRIMINOLES All we need is a field goal to cover the spread!

Crimonoles: Nickname given to Florida State during their powerhouse years, which sounds similar to Seminoles. This nickname was given to them because along with many offensive categories they also led the nation in stolen goods and arrests.

Notre Dame will score another touchdown. The question will be if FSU can be able to take it back down the field to score as well.

People get so worked up about RG3 and he is good but what we forget is that Baylor’s defense is so bad. They need to find a way to keep use RG3 on defense. Maybe RG3 can carry them there as well.

This game reminds me of what Coach Reaves used to say:
“Hey, hey…a team’s best defense is their own offense on the field.”

“Time of possession is important. It is not all about scoring points as fast as you can.”

Can Baylor outscore Washington by 21 points to win and take the spread with a little more than a quarter left?
They can definitely score the points but I dont know if their defense will hold up.

    Is ESPN watching the Sabowl?

Read this from my original post tonight regarding KP1: “Washington will be led by Keith Price or who I like to refer as KP1.”

    This was just tweeted:

This is better “point-counterpoint” than Dan Ackroyd-Jane Curtain. #KP1 comes right back, scores in 2plays. #Washington back up 49-39.

with 49 points Washington still does not have the most points scored against Baylor

    Oklahoma State (I’m a man I’m 40) scored 59 against them
Texas A&M scored 55 against them

Can Washington score 10 more points?

My picks were made to allow contestants to get close and perhaps take the lead for awhile , but it in the end the Sabowl Trophy will have to be sent to Maryland to its new home to be along side the “SABO CUP” and undergo future alterations.

Told you he would alter the Sabowl Trophy!!! Not to worry! I have some dirt on RJ1 that should he win will be shared with all competitors. It is enough dirt to get him suspended for a minimum of 3 Sabowls. Of course, Michael will have to make the final administrative ruling.
